I'm Laura Resau (rhymes with see-saw). I write novels set in places where I've lived or traveled around the world.

Magic, love, and adventure tend to find their way into my stories. So do brave characters who take journeys of all kinds, inside and outside themselves. I feel passionate about weaving environmental and human rights issues into my books and helping new, global voices be heard.

My books are shelved in the kids' and teens' sections, but are read by many not-so-young adults, too.

I love exploring the world, wandering by streams, sitting with old trees, being cozy in vintage trailers, making home-grown flower tea, star-gazing in the mountains, and hanging out with my husband, son, rescue beagle, and husky pup in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The inspiring Indigenous leader, Patricia Gualinga, co-authored a picture book with me—Stand as Tall as the Trees: How an Amazonian Community Protected the Rain Forest. It’s also available in Spanish as Con la cabeza en alto: cómo una comunidad amazónica protegió la selva.

This book tells the story of how Paty’s Kichwa community in the Ecuadorian Amazon defended their sacred forest from oil exploitation. The fabulous Ecuadorian artist, Vanessa Jaramillo, illustrated the book with stunning water color art on paper.

My new sci-fi YA novel, Virch, is coming on June 4, 2024, with Owl Hollow Press. Virch tells the story of a teen who infiltrates a virtual reality empire to save her sister, but when she discovers a plot to destroy humanity, she must team up with the founder’s enigmatic son even as she questions the very nature of reality.
